When you’re searching for skincare and makeup products - how do you know what to splurge on and what to save on? What is worth the investment? How do you know what is the best vitamin C serum for mature skin? It’s easy to feel pressured by every shiny new launch. And if you're like me, it can be really overwhelming standing in an aisle or at a counter - not knowing what you're supposed to be looking for or even what to ask for.

Here’s my rule of thumb, after years as a pro makeup artist and lifelong product tester. on what to splurge on and what to save on.

Splurge On:

• Vitamin C Serum – Stability matters; cheap formulas oxidise fast.

• Retinoids or Bakuchiol – Proven anti-aging ingredients are worth the science.

• Foundation & Lipstick – Shade range and texture make or break the look.

Pro tip: For mature skin, creamy textures are your best friend - foundations, eyeshadows, blushes, contours and highlighters - they blend better, they stay put longer (no fallout!), and give that luminous, dewy finish we all love.

Save On:

• Cleanser – A gentle, pH-balanced formula does the job beautifully without breaking the bank.

• Mascara – You’ll be replacing it every three months anyway.

• Basic Lip Balm – Skip anything with wax—it actually repels moisture (think waxed surfboard vibes).
